Adoption Process Information & Requirements
Our mission began in 2014, we are a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer operated rescue organization. We are located in central Indiana.
Our foster base program provides a safe and nurturing environment for animals in need.
Our main location is accessible to approved applicants by appointment only, as we do not accept unsolicited visitors in order to maintain a secure and healthy environment for our animals.
Our process is different requiring time and patience. Adoptions can vary in length time. Some take 3-6 weeks others 2-4 months. Each situation is unique and different in their own ways based on the dogs and or the potential adopters needs. There is no one way fits all. We try hard to accommodate educate and prepare for each individual need.
Our main goal is adopting out responsibly avoided the extra added pressure impulsivity and emotions can bring. There is no at the moment decisions to be made. We dont just find homes, we find families.
We at the AH Rescue Sanctuary specialize in animals that require more of us to place because of challenging behaviors. The animals in our care have already suffered from trauma in one way or another. Because of this, we take a strict stance on potential adopters. Our dogs and cats must be and are our greatest concern. We will do whatever it takes to make sure those in our care find the healthiest and most stable, suitable environment for their individual needs.
To be considered a potential adopter, you must first be vetted. You must have a working relationship with your vet and have any animals you currently have or history of being up to date on all vetting, even if it is only a yearly physical done. We will call your vet for verification. We also perform home visits to ensure your house and yard is appropriate. If any of these expectations are not met, you will not qualify to adopt any of our animals. If you qualify as a potential adopter, this does not mean you will be able to adopt the animal you have your heart set on. We understand you may be an amazing pet parent/owner; however, we know the personality and temperament of our animals.
If the animal you are seeking is not a good fit for your home, we will politely suggest others who may be a better match. No obligations, just us asking to be open about it.
Please understand, that in all cases, our animals are our first and only priority. We would rather take the time to find the right home than risk any of our animals to be further traumatized by a negative situation or another rehoming. We ask that you understand this and be willing to work with us while we seek to find happy forever homes for the dogs and cats in our care.
